How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drag your JPG files into the box above or click “Choose files” (folders and pasting from the clipboard work too).
- PNG is preselected as the output format; adjust quality, size and target file size if you like.
- Press “Start converting”; files are converted in your browser, in parallel.
- Download the files one by one or grab them all as a ZIP.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
PNG is lossless: it does not lose quality on every save and it keeps transparency. It suits logos, screenshots and images you plan to edit later.
JPG files are already lossy; converting to another lossy format can add generation loss, so keep the quality setting high.
JPG vs PNG
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| File extension | .jpg / .jpeg | .png |
| Compression | Lossy | Lossless |
| Transparency | No | Yes |
| Animation | No | No |
| Typical file size | Small | Large (for photos) |
| Support | Everywhere | Everywhere |
| Best for | photographs, e-commerce product shots, email attachments | logos, screenshots, icons, graphics with transparent backgrounds |
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used image format, built for photographs and based on lossy compression. PNG is a lossless format with full transparency (an alpha channel). File sizes get large for photographs, and animation support is not widespread.
Tips for the best results
- To shrink the file further tick “Best compression”; it is slightly slower but still lossless.
- For the web, limiting the width to 1600 pixels cuts file size a lot while keeping visual quality (Resize section).
- Metadata such as GPS location and camera details (EXIF) is always removed from the output.
Privacy and security
Conversion runs entirely in your browser (using WebAssembly); your images are never uploaded to our server and never leave your device. The server only receives anonymous counters that contain no file names or content (source/target format, size, duration). Metadata such as location and camera details is always stripped from the output.
