1. Do not upload more than you need
If an image is shown at 800 pixels wide at most, uploading a 4000-pixel original wastes bandwidth. For retina screens 2× is enough. Use the resize tool to shrink in bulk.
2. Choose an efficient format
For photos WebP or AVIF produce smaller files than JPG. See What is WebP?
3. Tune the quality
For most photos a quality of 75–85 saves a lot without a visible difference. The compression tool supports both quality and a target KB limit.
4. Strip metadata
EXIF data carries camera, date and location information; it enlarges the file and is a privacy risk. The tools on this site always remove metadata from the output.
5. Help the browser
- Write
widthandheightattributes (prevents layout shift). - Add
loading="lazy"to images below the fold. - Do not lazy-load the largest image on the page (LCP); prioritise it.
