Why convert PNG to JPG?
JPG makes photographs much smaller and opens everywhere. It is the most practical choice for staying under the upload limits of forms, email and online shops.
If a PNG has transparency it is kept when the target format supports it; otherwise the background colour you pick is used.
PNG may contain transparency; because JPG does not support it, transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).

| File extension | .png | .jpg / .jpeg |
| Compression | Lossless | Lossy |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Animation | No | No |
| Typical file size | Large (for photos) | Small |

| Best for | logos, screenshots, icons, graphics with transparent backgrounds | photographs, e-commerce product shots, email attachments |
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency (an alpha channel). JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used image format, built for photographs and based on lossy compression. It has no transparency; quality drops with each re-save, and sharp-edged graphics can show blur or ringing.
Tips for the best results
- For most photos a quality of 80–85 is visually indistinguishable while making the file much smaller. If you have a size limit, use the “Target file size” option.
- For the web, limiting the width to 1600 pixels cuts file size a lot while keeping visual quality (Resize section).
- Metadata such as GPS location and camera details (EXIF) is always removed from the output.
Privacy and security
Conversion runs entirely in your browser (using WebAssembly); your images are never uploaded to our server and never leave your device. The server only receives anonymous counters that contain no file names or content (source/target format, size, duration). Metadata such as location and camera details is always stripped from the output.
